All in Yosemite National Park
Camping in Yosemite is a magical experience and one that should not be missed if you get the chance. There is just something special about sleeping outside surrounded by thousand foot high granite walls and tall pine tree’s. However, getting a campsite in Yosemite is not as easy as you think it would be. With over 2 million visitors annually the competition to camp in the valley is fierce.
The Mist Trail is Yosemite’s iconic hiking trail and the most popular in the park. This hike is entirely uphill but not to worry if you aren't much of a hiker, you can still enjoy excellent views of Vernal Falls from the footbridge at less than a mile into the trail.
The Upper Yosemite Falls trail is a strenuous and steep hike but the effort is well worth it! You get some great views of the Yosemite Valley floor even if you only make it up to Columbia Rock but the effort really pays off if you make it to the top!
Hike Cloud’s Rest from Yosemite Valley. This is so much more challenging then the trail to Half Dome.
Camp 4 is the only first come first serve campground in Yosemite Valley. It is also in high demand between May and October therefore securing a site can be tough! This campground is unique in that it is a shared campground and sites are filled on a per person basis. Because of this, Camp 4 has a very communal feel to it much like staying at a hostel.
So you didn't win the pre-season permit lottery for hiking Half Dome in March or you didn't even know you had to enter a lottery to hike up Half Dome. Now what? You can't visit Yosemite National Park and not bag Half Dome right?! Relax. Depending on when you are planning your visit to Yosemite or how long you plan to spend there, you have a few options to help achieve your hiking goals.
