When searching for a set of roof racks for our 94 Chevy G20 van there were not a lot of options due to the rain gutter design on these vans. After some research and internet surfing we came across these Highland Heavy-Duty Bar Rack Carriers on Amazon
We were a little skeptical on the quality and cheap price of these roof racks however, after reading the reviews we were convinced they would do the job we needed them to. So, we hit “buy now” and a few days later they arrived at our front door.
We were impressed with the quality, but the real question was how long will it take us to install these and what tools will we need? It turns out a drill and drill bit and two wrenches were all we needed for installation.
Why the drill you ask?
The roof racks can be adjusted 37 inches to 62 inches wide to fit anywhere on your van e.g. front, middle or rear. However, when you expand them to your desired width you need to drill a hole through the middle of the round tubing to fit a bolt and nut which is included in the package. This secures the roof rack cross bars. This took about five minutes and is simple enough for anyone to achieve.
The wrenches?
Now we had the roof racks to the width and desired area on the van the next step was to attach them to the rain gutters. The roof racks have a clamp which attaches them to the rain gutters easily with another bolt that gets tightened down. Once you have tightened the bolt you are good to go.
We use the roof racks to strap surfboards to and also our large cargo box. We are yet to have an issue with Highland Heavy-Duty Bar Rack Carriers and would recommend them to anyone looking for some cheap but great quality roof bar racks for their van. 10 out of 10.
