Bombay Beach: Photos To Inspire A Road Trip
Bombay Beach is a mostly abandoned town that sits on the shores of the Salton Sea. The neglected buildings and shipwrecked boats make it an intriguing destination to visit on a road trip if you happen to be traveling through the area.
Bombay Beach was once a popular resort destination that Los Angeles weekender’s used to flock to. A spot that even the likes of Frank Sinatra spoke highly of.
Now the once happening vacation destination of the 1950s and 1960s is nothing but a place of ruins, graffiti, and fish carcasses.
The town which sits at 223 feet below sea level is the lowest community in terms of elevation in the United States. According to the consensus back in 2010, the population was at 295 residents.
The ruins of Bombay Beach are now beginning to attract photographers and other visitors who enjoy exploring off-the-beaten path places and ghost towns.
Indeed, the abandoned town is worth visiting for photographers as the location in the Sonoran desert is attractive with its distant mountains and vast blue sea sitting in the background.
Some of the coolest things to see at Bombay Beach is the abandoned drive-in and the shipwrecked boats along the shore of the Salton Sea.
The run-down buildings and colorful graffiti make for interesting subjects to take pictures of too.
Feel free to stroll around the town to take photographs but just be aware that there still are residents living here. Please do not disturb them.
There are certain areas where you can access the Salton Sea’s shoreline which are worth visiting to see the astounding amount of fish carcasses strewn through the sand.
